The kids have a great time with new friends. The Service point and Take Away can be found in the old inn. There is a mini market too. So fresh bread rolls for breakfast are available!
Boating, swimming and stargazing
Way back, the Lauwersmeer used to be the Lauwerszee. Artificial hills offer protection against the high tide. These hills are called wierden in Groningen. The park is located near Vierhuizen, which is also a real wierde village. When you go head out exploring the area, you are bound to notice the varied landscape. Water, vast meadows and woodlands alternate. Nature in the Lauwersmeer is so special that the area has been designated a National Park. At Lauwersoog you will find several beaches. Perfect for those hot days! If you prefer to go sailing, you can rent a boat at various places. Or go on a day trip to the Wadden Island Schiermonnikoog. You can get there in no time by ferry. In the evening when darkness falls, a new experience awaits. At the Lauwersmeer, it is really dark. You can stargaze fantastically from one of the special watchtowers. Will you spot a shooting star?

A lovely day out in the country
You can fully enjoy nature in Lauwersmeer National Park. Take a brisk walk, hop on the bike or head out on the water. At the activity centre, you will learn everything about birds, and once it's dark, you can enjoy the beauty of the night sky here. On clear nights, you can see the Milky Way in all its splendour here. There are 3 places where you can see the night sky well. That's possible at the Lauwernest Activity Centre, the Achter de Zwarten watchtower and the Vlinderbalg watchtower. Every year, many fun and educational activities are organized for young and old.
A unique cruise on the Wadden Sea
Go on a boat trip and spot seals sunbathing on the sandbanks in the Wadden Sea. Along the way, you will hear an explanation about the special nature reserve that's included on the World Heritage list for good reason. The Wadden Sea is the largest tidal area in the world. Animals arrive from all over the world to breed and rest here. Will you be joining the search?

Visiting the bustling city
There is plenty to do in Groningen. Like going to the large market. There is a commodity market every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. You will also find lots of nice terraces, and you can go shopping in the compact city centre. You will also find the historic town hall and the famous Martini Tower, which is 97 meters tall. If you climb it, you can see nearly 30 kilometres in clear weather. In the heart of the Groningen city centre, lies the Forum. This is the meeting place for curious people. Exhibitions, films, various events, talk shows and much more take place here.
