Fifteen minutes by bike from the park is Heerenveen: the sports city of Friesland. You can catch a football match at the Abe Lenstra Stadium or step into the world of elite skating at Thialf, the Netherlands' most famous ice stadium. Here, you can witness top athletes in action and even hit the ice yourself during public skating sessions. Beyond the city, the surrounding area offers endless opportunities for outdoor activity, including hiking in Oranjewoud and cycling along the tranquil waters.

For family adventures nearby, you can embark on a treasure hunt in Heerenveen or visit the fascinating Museum Joure. In the heart of Friesland, between Heerenveen and Joure, you'll find Landal Waterpark Oudehaske. Stay in a modern lodge on the Nannewiid, a quiet lake free of motorboats. Thanks to its small-scale setup and location among the greenery, the park offers complete peace and privacy. There's plenty to do on and around the park. You can swim, paddleboard, windsurf, or even sail an 'optimist' on the lake. For a bite to eat, walk to Restaurant By Aalzen right next to the park, or drive to Joure or Heerenveen for more options.

The latter is known as a sports city, with the Abe Lenstra Stadium and Thialf skating stadium where you can experience top-class sport up close. The area also offers plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling, or exploring one of the Frisian lakes.
