Bird watching

Bird watching
A remarkable number of birds live in and around Natuurdorp Suyderoogh. Thanks to the quiet location by the Lauwersmeer, the flowery vegetation and bird-friendly design of the park - with nesting boxes and bushes - they feel very much at home. You can spot unusual species, such as the bluethroat, spoonbill, reed bunting or even a white-tailed eagle. Bring your binoculars and discover how much there is to see, from your holiday home or during a walk around the park.

National (and Dark Sky) Park Lauwersmeer
Landal Natuurdorp Suyderoogh is in the middle of National Park Lauwersmeer, one of the few places in the Netherlands where it still gets really dark at night. The area has therefore been declared an official Dark Sky Park. Thanks to the absence of light pollution, here you can admire the starry sky as you rarely see it - with views of the Milky Way, bright stars and sometimes even shooting stars. From the park, you have an unobstructed view of the night sky and for those who want to look deeper into the universe, telescopes are available for rent.

 Food and drinks
Take the time for a leisurely lunch on the terrace at Restaurant Suyderoogh, order delicious snacks during a round of bowling or pick up your evening dinner at the Snack Bar. We can accommodate all your meal needs. For even more convenience, order your groceries from us or book a fun family meal around a table grill in your bungalow.
 Kids
There is plenty for children to discover in and around the park. Follow the Discovery Track nature trail or let off steam in the playgrounds, which feature an air trampoline, zip line and water play area. Just outside the park, there are several child-friendly trails, such as the gnome trail, bird trail and badger trail. These short walks are full of fun facts and little surprises along the way. During the summer months, the park sometimes offers packages that include a rucksack and route booklet, which are extra fun for young explorers.
 Sports and games
Surrounded by water, this location offers many opportunities for water sports activities. Rent a boat or a canoe, float on the water and don't forget to pack your fishing gear. Take the small ferry across the water. On the mainland, you can play a round of miniature golf, go bowling and play billiards. You can also compete in a friendly game of beach volleyball, tennis, football and much more.
 Swimming
Everyone will have a great time in the indoor swimming pool. Swim a few laps and play with the kids in the separate paddling pool. Looking for a quiet spot? Then head to the relaxation area with a Finnish sauna and steam bath. Outside you can have fun on the recreational beach.
 Hiking and cycling
The surroundings of Landal Natuurdorp Suyderoogh are ideal for those who enjoy exploring nature. National Park Lauwersmeer is right next to the park and offers a varied landscape of water, grasslands and reed beds - ideal for a walking or cycling. Several marked routes run through the area, from short discovery trips to longer walks over old sea dykes and past lookout points where you can spot birds. The gnome route, badger route and bird-watching route are also a short distance away. Fancy a day further afield? From Lauwersoog you can take the ferry to Schiermonnikoog, where you can walk endlessly through dunes and along the beach.

Welcome to Landal Natuurdorp Suyderoogh

The detached accommodation offered by Landal Natuurdorp Suyderoogh is located in Lauwersmeer National Park. This is where sailors and surfers head for the water, where bird watchers set out with their binoculars and where the adventurous go walking on the mudflats. There is plenty to do in the area: sail towards Schiermonnikoog or if the weather is not too good, visit Dokkum, Kollum or Zoutkamp.
